The guitarist of the legendary band from England The Who, who, according to Rolling Stone, is among the ten best rock musicians, blames Apple's iTunes for its conventional, corporate attitude towards young artists.

According to Townshend, Apple is a "digital vampire" who feeds off the musicians. Mostly exploits them, instead of supporting them to nurture new talent. The music industry, he adds, has much in common with the banks, in profit-seeking and Apple is in turn very similar to the traditional record labels. The difference is it exploits digital networks of the 'wild west' such as Facebook and Twitter.

Actual offer to young artists, according to Pete would be if iTunes offered each year to 500 young artists the necessary equipment for their compositions to be recorded. Innovation for him would be Apple supporting artists both in digital and in recording level and give them a basis for integrated business. The culture of the one single artist must be fought according to Pete.

Condition for all that, however, is the monetary incentive to become a background, which is difficult if you calculate that Apple has the lead in revenue, unlike the old-style record companies that have their sales decreasing. (Source: Independent)
