Today we are going back… Almost two years ago, artists like Gang Of Four, Alan McGee, Steve Wynn and many more, wrote exclusively for this column. So, I asked Liam McKahey to remember his days I our country with Cousteau (I was there, in a packed Gagarin club) and tell us a few words about his new project, the amazing Bodies. Let’s “hear it” from Liam…

I remember my first trip to Athens. I was touring with my band at the time Cousteau, in Italy, I think it was 2000? We were due to play in Athens on St Valentine's day , but the Italian tour ended on 11th. The record company decided that the rest of the band go back to the UK and return to Greece on the 14th, but I should go straight to Athens from Italy and do some promo for a couple of days, yippee, lucky me. I arrived in Athens and was looked after by two wonderful women, Dimitra and Tina. They treated me so well, and showed me lots of the city, I did lots of interviews and television. I loved Athens, the beautiful chaos of the place, steeped in so much rich history, I found the people to be incredibly friendly. Fond memories. The rest of the band arrived two days later, a little jealous perhaps, who can blame them. We had a wonderful gig. And I have been longing to come back to Greece ever since.

My Band Cousteau have now split, the time was right I think, we had many good years and left behind a body of music that I am very proud of. I have since moved to Australia, Canberra, the Capitol city. My wife is a native and I love the place. Before I left I recorded a solo album with some very good friends ( including Robin and Joe from Cousteau) , the album was called ,
Liam Mckahey and The Bodies/Lonely Road. It was released by series 8 records, and is still available on iTunes or series8records.co.uk.

I have got a new band, The Bodies, here in Canberra, we have started playing and recording and I am pleased to say it sounds wonderful, you can hear samples of the new material on http://www.facebook.com/TheBodiesACT

I am also involved in a project with a Dutch composer called Stephen Emmer, I co wrote two songs on an EP which is being released shortly. It is being mastered at Abbey Road at the moment. The EP also featur es two songs  co written by Emmer and Glen Gregory of Heaven 17 and another Emmer collaboration by an English singer from Bristol called  Neil Crossley.

I look forward to the day I can once again come to Greece and perform x

Cheers Dimitris
Liam
