Here's what we know so far for the fifth album by Thermals: they'll start recording next month in Jackpot Studios in Portland, for it their new drummer Westin Glass will participate for the first time and in production will be Chris Walla, guitarist and producer for Death Cab for Cutie .
And it may be too early for us to announce the title of the album or song, but the company of the group Kill Rock Stars has scheduled its release for 7 September 2010.
Pierce said he has started working on their next album but that it will be released "... when finished, probably next year".
When asked if the recent reissue of 'Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' - on 16 November in special and collector's editions with 2 bonus CD with demos and alternative mixes of tracks - influenced the new tracks he replied: " ... I do not believe in backtracking or the idea that if something worked, let's do it again. But I'm making an album and it is very strange to expose something you did 12 years ago in all its complexity and then go in depth enough to play live and all that does not penetrate through the new things you do".
He added: "It was the early days. We wrote some good, very good songs ... Listening to the 'Ladies And Gentlemen ...', what it did was raise the bar. More than simply copying the sound of that album and thinking 'how did we do it?' Or 'we did it like this', it raised the bar and I think that is good".
