Christmas in the grill

My choices have been based on emotion & memories. It might be the time of the stars, but it certainly is not the time for the reviews' stars of the Mojo magazine that have no place at all in the Christmas spirit.

ChristmasinthegrillbyDimitrisPapaspyropoulos Christmas is definitely one of the most surreal times of the year - and perhaps this is why it is one of the most pleasant-no guilts period, at least with regard to the selection of your favorite Christmas songs, if no anyhting else. Eventually the process was easier than I expected.

My choices were based solely on emotion and memories. May this be the time of the stars, but it  certainly is not the time for the reviews' stars of the Mojo magazine that have no place, whatsoever, in the Christmas spirit.

So, almost every year at this time I see the movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas" in a production of Henry Selick by Tim Burton. An enchanting tale with a unique soundtrack of Danny Elfman to accompany it.

Also, very year, I bring out from my records' collection a unique Christmas 7inche vinyl (DAVID BOWIE & BING CROSBY - Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy) that I bought some time ago, and is probably my most favorite Christmas song.

Christmas is sometimes melancholy (ELVIS PRESLEY - Blue Christmas), for others it can be funny (DAFFY DUCK & THE LOONEY TUNES - All I Want For Christmas Is More, More, More), alternative (THE SMASHING PUMPKINS - Christmastime), punk (THE POGUES Feat. KIRSTY MacCOLL - Fairytale Of New York), and jazz (PEGGY LEE - Winter Wonderland). It can be Bono (U2 - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)), but also the Boss (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E-STREET BAND - Merry Christmas Baby).

It is cosmopolitan (FRANK SINATRA - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow), playful (EARTHA KITT - Santa Baby), funky (ARETHA FRANKLIN - Joy To The World, THE SUPREMES - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town), revolutionary (JOHN & YOKO - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)) and above all t is for the children (SPIKE JONES - All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth). There are songs that are not recorded as  Christmas' songs (YAZOO - Only You, FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD - The Power Of Love) or at least this was not the original intention of making them, but both interacted strongly with the festivities that have become an integral part of them. Some others still prefer to watch than to listen (JON BON JOVI - Please Come Home For Christmas), especially when  Cindy Crawford is starring in the video clip with Santa Claus' hat on.

At Christmas even the Ramones (Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)) sound more emotional than usual, Chrissie Hynde, more sexy than ever (THE PRETENDERS - 2000 Miles), let alone that we can enjoy with no guilts one of our sins (WHAM - Last Christmas).
