merritt Many musical documentaries having been shot recently regarding some of our favorite bands. So after White Stripes , Blur , CSS with Tilly and the Wall and Mogwai , it's Magnetic Fields' turn and the man behind the band,  Stephin Merritt, to be immortalized on the big screen. This, yet untitled, film will make an official premiere in the spring festivals of USA.

The directors of the film Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara attended and recorded for a decade the musical activities and personal life of Stephin Merritt and what makes the whole exercise even more interesting is the fact that Merritt was previously very cagey in interviews, both in professional and private life.

The press release states that "Included is the backstory of Merritt's first musical forays, his development as a writer-- from proofreader and copy editor at Spin to becoming one of Time Out New York's most dynamic scribes-- and his response to charges of elitism and racism."

Meanwhile the new album of Magnetic Fields , 'Realism' , will be released Tuesday (26/1) from Nonesuch. You can hear the entire album on the page of the group in MySpace , while in the website of Nonesuch you can watch a series of videos where Stephin Merritt and Claudia Gonson (member of the Magnetic Fields and manager and childhood friend of Merritt) discuss the creation of the album.
