Glasvegas: Once we dressed up as the Beatles and did a gig as a support act to ourselves

Has been read
At the last day of this month, on the 28th of February, Glasvegas will play in Greece for the first time! In the last Saturday night of this month, the "sweet" melodies of Glasvegas will be heard in Gagarin Live Music Space, in Athens.

Dimitris Antonopoulos talked with Jonna Löfgren, the drummer of the Scottish band. Amongst other, Jonna says the following: "Yes, the next album is in the making. I’ve put down the drums before christmas, and now the boys are working...

Sometimes I wish I could see in the future, when I feel a bit scared thinking what might be and not, or if i just wanna know if I’m gonna win on the lottery or not. But in the end, that’s the beauty of life. That we don’t know what the future holds.
"

So the "microphone" to Dimitris and Jonna:

1/ So, at last! Athens for the very first time! How do you feel really? What can we expect from such a great band?

Really looking forward to it!! It’s always exciting to go play places we’ve never been before. I’ve heard that James’ mum has booked her ticket over so she and her husband is coming to the gig. The same with Rabs mum and a couple of friends. Which means we’re gonna have at least 5 fans there.... Hopefully meet some greek fans as well, that would be amazing!!

2/ Are you workin' for a new album maybe? (Hope so...!)

Yes, the next album is in the making. I’ve put down the drums before christmas, and now the boys are working on getting their parts down as well. Working away day and night in the studio. Can not wait until it’s done to let everyone hear it!!

3/ I was talking to the legendary Alan McGee about the Scotish scene (if i may say so..) a few years ago. So, is there really a ''scene'' still nowdays? Theres a brilliant tradicion for sure i mean..

I guess the boys knows more about the music scene in Glasgow since they grew up there. But from my point of view it’s a really vibrant city with loads of live gigs every night. Whether it’s in small pubs or massive venues, it’s always something going on. I usually go to a blues jam on a tuesday night in a bar, there I get to play the blues with a bunch of cool cats. I usually bring along James who cheers me on.

5/ Lets move to my classic question! So, lets say that we're on a time machine (!) for the next 24 hours... Past or future? And why really...?

Tough one. But I’ll have to say the past. Sometimes I wish I could see in the future, when I feel a bit scared thinking what might be and not, or if i just wanna know if I’m gonna win on the lottery or not. But in the end, that’s the beauty of life. That we don’t know what the future holds. And for that I think we keep on dreaming and setting new goals all the time. And if I could choose, I would always keep on dreaming rather than knowing what’s gonna happen. So let’s head back to when dinosaurs was on the planet. Would be cool to be able to say that I’ve seen one. Triceratops.

6/ Can you tell 5 of your fav albums ever?

In no particular order:

Bruce Springsteen - Born to run
Youth Lagoon - the year of hibernation
Ryan Adams - Gold
Bob Dylan - Desire
Bob Marley - Live!

7/ Can you describe (for the fans!) your life ''on the road''?Can you give us a picture? Is there a good Rock & Roll story from the GLASVEGAS life on the road?

Life on the road.. hm, the most rock n roll story I’ve got is when we went to live with a tribe in the rainforest in Ecuador. We went there to record a TV documentary (which will be out in September). We get to do loads of crazy stuff with the band, but this was faaaaaar out!! In a good way. We hung out with the tribe, played some music with them, slept in hammocks and had a good laugh. I was working the machete and the boys tried out the blowpipe. I mean, it doesn't get more rock n roll than that. (Send photo)

8/ Beatles or Stones?

Tough one! Once we dressed up as the Beatles with sgt pepper costumes on and did a gig as a support act to ourselves. It was a secret and no one knew who the support act was gonna be. We came out in our wigs and painted moustaches (yup, I got one too) and played a few Beatles songs to our fans. Great gig. But we’ve never dressed up as the Rolling Stones, so my answer will need to be Stones, ha.

9/ ''All I Want Is My Baby''....What a song! So,tell me a few words about...An ''inside story'' or something about the makin' of...Really love this one...and i am not the only one here!

Thanks! Really glad you like it! James writes all the songs. It’s a special song. I remember listening to the demo the first time, with just the guitar and James’ vocals, and I got really emotional, it’s a powerful song. I think it speaks for itself, it’s not really much to add on to the story.

10/ Really first time in Greece...? I mean ,not even for the summer holidays? Come on... (laughs!)

Come oooon, ha, yeah, you're right. I’ve been to Greece before. Summer holiday. Yup, it’s a classic. Loved it. I remember getting spirits after every meal.. Ouzo? Never been to Athens though, so I expect to see some really cool and OLD buildings... And hopefully it’s warmer there too. I love a good sunny weekend. ha. Really looking forward to coming over and play our songs. And maybe you can teach us some good greek phrases, maybe something with ouzo?

Thank you very much for your time! See you soon!
