The Thermals - Now we can see

" Now we can see "is the 4th album by the band from Portland , which was released on April 7 by the Kill Rock Stars. The music of " Thermals " contains a mixture of pop - punk compositions and I would say that on several points reminds me of Hold Steady , perhaps because of the vocals.

The album starts strongly with "When I died" and besides the title single, (see below!) that contains more pop elements and the calm moment of the disc " At the bottom of the sea ", which reminds to some extent Velvet Underground , all the eleven tracks are moving steadily in the same fairly good  level (as you can see below the rating of each track). In some cases the desire is for fast punk guitar pieces, in other pop singles and in others stretching the song, like we are used to see from non-pop bands. With power derived from the Ramones of the 70s and the Hold Steady of our decade, the Thermals may belong wth this disk in the list of the best albums, I have heard so far in 2009.
