He probably does not exist anywhere else but in music  God is  as they say, «present ». Whether as an old person up there, or as an undefined entity and presence, or simply as god-made man he haunts for thousands of years Fantasy and Art. This week, therefore, we make a first attempt to detect the traces of God in songs.

1 . God - John Lennon

(John Lennon)

After having done primal therapy for 4 months under the supervision of Arthur Janov, Lennon released the John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band in December 1970. There is also this song, which, after first giving its own definition of God ( "God is a concept / By which we measure our pain" ), the former Beatle goes on a list of «excommunication» all «fatherly figures» and colleagues who were part of his life until then (including  Elvis,  Dylan, Jesus and the Beatles).

2. God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
(Brian Wilson-Tony Asher)
The Pet Sounds is the magnum opus of Brian Wilson and his friends, and largely responsible for this dazzling musical diamond. Even with an erotic theme it is one of the first pop songs with the word "God" in the title and, musically, is as close as a human melody could  reach the «divine».

3. In God's Country - U2

(Bono-The Edge-Adam Clayton-Larry Mullen, Jr.)
What is ultimately God's country? Bono was not sure and ultimately devoted the song to the Statue of Liberty. Sweeping guitars and performance of the frontman of U2. "Sleep comes like a drug / In God's country ..."

4. God Protect Your Soul - Ed Harcourt

(Ed Harcourt)
The debut, Here Be Monsters , made a special impression when released in 2001, and how could do otherwise as it contained pieces like this one? ambient outrageous and incredibly orchestrated, is nonetheless a rather well kept secret. Discover it immediately!

5. With God On Our Side - Bob Dylan

(Bob Dylan)
The first phase of the career of the most important song writer , perhaps of last century, characterized by the so-called «protest songs». In particular, Dylan delt with those who use God to deliver fraudulents and plans to lead entire nations into bloody conflicts. "If God's on our side / He'll stop the next war."

6. God Give Me Strength - Elvis Costello

(Elvis Costello-Burt Bacharach)
Written for the film Grace Of My Heart in 1996 and led Costello and Bacharach to create a whole collaborative album ( Painted From Memory , 1998). The loss of a great love lead the invocation of God ...

7. God Is In The House - Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds

(Nick Cave)
Deep ironic and sound-bites or just sympathetic? Never can tell with certainty when you have to do with the master lyricists "disguise". From the very good No More Shall We Part in 2001.

8. Let The Cool Goddess Rust Away - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
(Alec Ounsworth)
From the magnificent debut of these nuts Americans is the taciturn this song with the particular sounds. Loyal to the indie philosophy, they do not even have a contract back home.

9. Dear God Please Help Me - Morrissey
(Morrissey-Alain Whyte)
Promenading the streets of Rome, the former frontman of the Smiths has a dialogue with God. What is more natural? From Ringleader Of The Tormentors 2006. "There are explosive kegs / Between my legs" ...

10. God! Show Me Magic - Super Furry Animals

(Gruff Rhys-Huw Bunford-Guto Pryce-Cian Ciaran-Dafydd Ieuan)
With the opening track of the debut, and within less than 2 minutes, the five from Wales manage to show of their pop sensibility and, at the same time,  provoke, giving orders to the Big Boss! What else do you want?
