Την ημέρα των γενεθλίων της διάλεξε η Ισλανδή Björk να εξηγήσει στους fans της τι ακριβώς συμβαίνει με το πρόβλημα της φωνής της. Όπως είχε ανακοινώσει και η ίδια παλαιότερα, οι γιατροί είχαν βρει πολύποδες στις φωνητικές χορδές της. Η μουσικός, όμως, διάλεξε να μην εγχειριστεί τότε και επέλεξε να αντιμετωπίσει το πρόβλημα με συμβατικό τρόπο. Μετά από 4 χρόνια, όμως, χειρουργήθηκε με θετικά αποτελέσματα. Είχε, όμως, χρειαστεί να ακυρώσει κάποιες εμφανίσεις της μέσα στο 2012, όπως αυτή στο Primavera Sound της Βαρκελώνης.
Μόλις κυκλοφόρησε το 'bastards', ο δίσκος που περιλαμβάνει remixes των τραγουδιών του 'Biophilia' που είχε κυκλοφορήσει το 2011. Τα μιξαρισμένα τραγούδια υπάρχουν σε προηγούμενες κυκλοφορίες (The Crystalline Series, the Biophilia Remix Series) αλλά η Björk, όπως αναφέρεται στο περιοδικό Fact, θέλησε "να συγκεντρώσει την ουσία των remixes σε μια κυκλοφορία και να βοηθήσει αυτούς που δεν μπορούν να ακολουθήσουν τα κηνυγετικά τελετουργικά του ιντερνετ". Στο bastards περιλαμβάνονται remixes από καλλιτέχνες όπως Omar Souleyman, These New Puritans, Death Grips, The Slips κ.ά.

few years ago doctors found a vocal polyp on me chords ... i decided to go the natural way and for 4 years did stretches and tackled it with different foods and what not . then they discovered better technology and i got tempted into hi tech lazer stuff and i have to say , in my case anyway : surgery rocks ! i stayed quiet for 3 weeks and then started singing and definitely feel like my chords are as good as pre nodule ! it´s been very satisfying to sing all them clear notes again .
im sorry i had to cancel stuff earlier in the year , didnt want to talk about this until i knew for sure if it would work . so looking forward to singing for you in 2013
