Yesterday it was REM, today we learned that Cesaria Evora decided to end her long career in music for health reasons.

The singer from Cape Verde, who on August
27 turned 70 and we had seen on June 6 at the Lycabettus Theater in Athens, arrived a few days ago in Paris, in a state of great weakness. In recent years, Cesaria Evora has been through multiple surgeries and even one open heart surgery in May 2010.

Doctors monitoring her in Paris demanded she should cancel the forthcoming tour and she along with her producer, José da Silva, to end her career.

Cesaria Evora released her first album in 1988 (La Diva Aux Pieds Nus) and from then until 2009 she made a total of 11 albums. Called the "barefoot diva", she is for many one of the best voices of Africa..

In an interview with newspaper Le Monde, Cesaria Evora explains to journalist Veronica Mortaigne the reasons why they took this decision and sends a message of love to all her fans. If you know French, read the interview here.
