Onslaught - Sounds Of Violence

The fifth studio album of the English thrashers Onslaught entitled Sounds Of Violence if anything, can not leave us indifferent!
Read times
England Bristol 1982/1983. Steve Grice (drums) and Nige Rockett (guitar) create their Onslaught and with two other members they record their first demo. Some 28 years after and with the pioneers again Grice & Rockett plus Sy Keeler (voice), Andy Rosser-Davies (guitar) and Jeff Williams (bass), they strike back with their fifth studio album Sounds of Violence.

Twenty-eight years old group and just a fifth record! Logical, from 1991 to 2004 they broke up. The group which was never in the front line of metal , gave especially with the first three releases a beautiful tone in the family of thrash. Top then time was in 1985 with the The Force (he who likes thrash and hasn't heard it still,  should rush to it).

Their reunification in 2004 was a pleasant surprise and was structured on the successful core of 1985 ( Grice , Rockett , Sy Keeler ) who continue to give us more generously doses of  thrash the way we like it.

Let's see with more detail some things. The Sounds Of Violence consists of 11 tracks of them one intro one outro and the adaptation of the legendary Bomber of Motorhead . So we are left with simple math 8 pieces. And all 8 are great. No, I don't do a dithyramb of a review, but I will boldly put a 10/10 in each piece. The Onslaught managed without spoiling the style to be fresh and strong. Not consumed by hubbub at no boring with unnecessary songs and really give you the feeling that is thrash : Strength, Speed, Rage.

Besides, let's not make any mistake. We are in 2011 and I do not think it is possible to go back in the mid-80's where thrash was in crazy rise as a natural consequence of the second wave of punk. Everything is progressing. Clearly music, too.

The style then of the record is a natural continuation of their last release The killing Peace (2007)A little by Testament, something like a little Slayer but enough Onslaught ! The duration of the songs are over four minutes but no more than 6:30. The order of the tracks as chosen to be in cd, is highly successful, having created a stream where no listener gets to feel fatigue. From very personal opinion, I think of Born For War, Rest In Pieces and Suicideology the highlights of this work. The outro was probably unnecessary, but do not give great importance! Finally, the cover hosting once again a pentacle (only Killing Peace had no pentacle). Nothing special in the cover!

And we came to the point where I want to finish this little tour on the CD. Bomber, a classic piece of Motorhead (GODS remember how many bands especially thrash owe their existence through direct influence on superband of Lemmy). The issue however is not in itself the adaptation (no room for review here), but Who is involved in it: Phil Campbell (Motorhead) and Tom Angelripper (Sodom). No need of saying anything else, the conclusions are yours. As a matter of fact  Bomber was also single promoting Sounds Of Violence.

Review: A pretty good new thrash recor (I repeat, thrash of this season rather than 1984-1990), with good production, well cared and proposed to be purchased. The fans of the kind will love it.

We expect to see them again sometime in our country after the epic first appearance (if  I'm not mistaken in 2007 on the promotion of the new then Killing Peace) with Sy Keeler  honoring as normal The Force and all of us thinking that not a day has gone by since they broke up.

Let there be DEATH !!!
