Ανακοινώθηκαν με σημαντική καθυστέρηση φέτος οι υποψηφιότητες για τα Oscar, τα οποία θα δοθούν έπειτα από δύο χρόνια σε διά ζώσης τελετή στον φυσικό τους χώρο, το Dolby Theatre, στις 27 Μαρτίου.
Τις περισσότερες υποψηφιότητες (12) έχει η «Εξουσία του Σκύλου» της Τζέιν Κάμπιον. Η ταινία είναι υποψήφια για τις κατηγορίες Καλύτερης Ταινίας, Σκηνοθεσίας, Α΄Ανδρικού Ρόλου, Β΄Γυναικείου Ρόλου και Β΄Ανδρικού Ρόλου. Ακολουθούν το "Dune" με 10 υποψηφιότητες, το "Belfast" και το "West Side Story" με επτά υποψηφιότητες το καθένα.
