Οι Pains Of Being Pure At Heart live in Gagarin

After the exceptional The Horrors wε enjoyed last Wednesday in the Gagarin , another invasion of fresh new sound -in the midst of a heatwave- from New York this time and Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. As with the Horrors , so with the Pains , we have a fresh group that has drawn on it the spotlights,  both because of the disc of, and live performance. So between the Synch and Eject, a walk on Monday evening by Gagarin , which incidentally is more than adequately air-conditioned, will be fully satisfactory.

They got their - very special - name from an unpublished children's story that was written by a friend of the singer Kip Burman . Characterized by the musical press as the most fascinating indie pop band of the planet, right now! Although from New York , in their, same name, debut (released by Slumberland in 2009), full of beautiful noisy pop diamonds, ideally combines male and female vocals that bring to mind Morrissey , the Field Mice and Lush with melancholic melodies and fuzzy guitars which in turn, are reminiscent of the best moments of My Bloody Valentine and Jesus & Mary Chain .

They do not hide their preference to groups such as Pastels , the Exploding Hearts , the Black Tambourine / Velocity Girl , the Vaselines , the Teenage Fanclub , the Ramones , Nirvana and, of course, My Bloody Valentine.

Together with their neighbors the Vivian Girls and Crystal Stilts , they are considered as one of the best new names in contemporary American scene. This summer finds them participating in the biggest festivals , in the world!

Some excerpts from the music press:

"Their songs mesmerize, beyond the boundaries of any kind of music. Anyone who has a weakness in the beautiful, melancholic pop music will find much to like in this album. "
Pitchfork

"The music of the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart is far more than the sum of their influences and overflows in emotions in a way so unforced and original that does not need any further study. Pure indie-pop to keep close to your heart ..."
New Musical Express

"The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart created a faultless debut, despite their very young age, and any misunderstanding that wants them to be simply renovators certainly disappear when you hear this very complete album. "

FLAKES

The quintet of art punkers Flakes split their creativity between Athens, Patra and London. In their debut album, "Lick Your Fingers If You Like It", which was released last October by the Patras independent label Inner Ear, combining - with the best possible way - the post-punk moments of Gang Of Four with indie rock of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The stage presence of the band live is explosive, while frontwoman, Yodashe, wins you over with her stunning performance.

The Flakes have appeared so far in many concert halls in Greece and England and in February had  their first coyntrywide headlining tour, "Lick your fingers tour", to promote their debut album.

Highlights of their career so far:
