Contrary to what one would expect, the shift of the Sonic Youth from the multinational Geffen in the most independent  Matador, had rather the opposite effect than expected. What I  mean to say is that  they lack the appearance of the registered and validated by years  of these New Yorkers for sound experimentation, or even the attempt of a "Washing Machine" or a "A Thousand Leaves" and it seems like they leave the comfort of the last three maturity, leading to the "Murray Street", albums  and looks as if they make an unexpected return to the early 90's the "Goo" and "Dirty".

 Recycling

On the contrary, there is probably a retrograde return to the sound of 90's, in their own sound that is, since they largely determine, a discouraging recycling music, lyrics and general mood that is obvious in the first three songs that open the album in 2 minutes punk rock "Sacred Trickster", but in "Anti-Orgasm" and "Leaky Lifeboat" below, known knotty guitars, the vocals, which obscure the deformations and petting the audio as the always lively female-male wavering between the grim and steady Thurston and the always fun-bitch Kim. The result is always as high but it is rather flat. Concise, dynamic and moderate the "Eternal", with songs that marked out the sound of the band and with fully comprehensible Chorus.

Stable Value

Quiet and meek to aggressive disposal, but without enforcement is available, the "Malibu Gas Station Lee Ranaldo" , the vocal color "What We Know" by threatening tone, leading to the robust rif destruction, while out with the Thurston undermine the melodic nuance that opens the "Antenna" with controlled doses of explosions. Personal choice of the " Massage The History " that closes the album, with Kim  sounding pleasantly alien, and at the same time increasing raids of guitars  deformation and wave from the drums of  Shelley give an  atmosphere, a psychedelic flavor  that digs up sore memories.

Need

I never understood the need to return to the post-grunge sound Dirty that characterizes the "Eternal", nor what is precisely the target-audience. Judging strictly I would charge lack of inspiration. On the other hand if I dwell with leniency I will consider it a new start, which certainly they do not need,  us they are most emblematic figures in their  kind,  they have a  audience who follow and a lot of bands that copied them and all those treating them as sacred totem. Probably there is no reason for me to understand.
