H οσκαρική περίοδος ξεκίνησε και επίσημα, με την Αμερικανική Ακαδημία Κινηματογραφικών Τεχνών και Επιστημών να ανακοινώνει ήδη τις shortlists σε δέκα κατηγορίες για την 94η Τελετή Απονομής των Βραβείων Όσκαρ.
Πρόκειται για λίστες που αφορούν στις κατηγορίες για Ντοκιμαντέρ (μικρού και μεγάλου μήκους), Διεθνούς Ταινίας, Μακιγιάζ, Μουσικής, Τραγουδιού, Ταινίας Μικρού μήκους, Ήχου και Οπτικών εφέ. Το ελληνικό "Digger" του Τζώρτζη Γρηγοράκη δυστυχώς δεν βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στις 15 ταινίες που θα αξιολογήσουν τα μέλη της Ακαδημίας για την Διεθνή Ταινία της χρονιάς.
Η ψηφοφορία για τις βραχείες λίστες ολοκληρώθηκε στις 15 Δεκεμβρίου. Οι ψηφοφορίες για τις υποψηφιότητες θα διεξαχθεί από τις 27 Ιανουαρίου έως την 1η Φεβρουαρίου. Οι υποψήφιοι όλων των κατηγοριών θα ανακοινωθούν στις 8 Φεβρουαρίου. Η 94η τελετή απονομής των βραβείων Όσκαρ θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Χόλυγουντ στις 27 Μαρτίου 2022.
